To bring awareness of how awesome and accessible coding can be to elementary schools!
Passion for Coding is a community of volunteer software engineers who run 1 hour, in-person, hands-on coding workshops in elementary school classrooms. These workshops are designed to inspire the next generation to be masters of technology rather than simply consumers. Students are introduced to fundamentals of how computers and programming languages work and get first-hand experience writing code.
We recognize that teachers are busy and simply providing teaching materials online is not enough. Our volunteers help introduce computer science curriculum into elementary schools and bring their training, experience, and passion into the classroom to provide students with real-life role models from the field.
Our Knowledge Base contains our teaching materials as well as follow-up resources for students and their parents to continue exploring their Passion for Coding at home.
Natalie ran the first coding workshops for her childrens' elementary school in 2017 and founded Passion for Coding as a volunteer movement with the goal of bringing those workshops to all elementary schools to share her passion for coding with every student, regardless of background, income, gender, or race.
Francis brings his background in art, design, and software engineering together to inspire students to see computer technology not just as a tool, but as an expressive medium. As an educator, he teaches classes and workshops in "creative coding" at schools, festivals, and non-profit institutions.
